FITTED

FITTED’s objective is to motivate people into an exercise routine that suits their level, schedule, and interests.

Firstly, finding exercise routines for your level can be difficult, especially if you want to try something new. This responsive web app aims to help people get into an exercise of their choice by holding their hand a bit and providing routines, guides, interactive examples, and info. Secondly, finding routines that fit into your schedule is not easy. The web app is designed to encourage people who want to get into an easy routine for physical activities. This means fitting in as little as a 5-minute routine.

User Persona

So with the FITTED brief, it included included a User Persona:

“ Rebecca is very tech savvy, as she works on computers every day. She lives in an apartment with her boyfriend and 3-year old daughter. “

Given this User Persona, I knew exactly who I was designing for as my target audience. This is a very important step in the design process to ensure that your user experience is being tailored for the audience that is intended, and not random.

Wireframes

With the process of Wireframing, you can start with Low Fidelity to get out your initial ideas and make your way up to High Fidelity to achieve a more polished look. For FITTED, I wanted to strive for a simple but modern aesthetic, that promoted both ease of use and a minimalistic style.

Retrospective

With the original intent of this project being to design a fitness app, my overall goal has been achieved in my eyes. While not perfect, my design for FITTED, was able to hit the target audience, color guidelines, and overall feel to succeed. However, the whole design process was not without any issues along the way.

My main issue actually originated from the start, and looking back now, was something I could’ve avoided with more care. So nearing the end of the initial design, it was still in mobile form. When taking that design and translating it to other popular breakpoints, as mentioned above, this is where I encountered an issue. The biggest problem was how to handle the nav bar, but beyond that, having the content fit each breakpoint well was more difficult than I had imagined. Luckily in the end I was able to figure it out with some outside perspective provided by some of my design colleagues.

Final Thoughts

Now with the experience and knowledge gained from FITTED under my belt, I plan to be more thorough with my brainstorming and sketching in order to account for more than what is presented to me at the time. Being able to plan ahead, and think for the whole project and what is to come will surely give me better insight to avoid problems like this in the future.

In addition, this was the first project I had done mostly in Figma, and it was a great learning experience. I’m looking forward to learning more and more about Figma, and bring more to my workflow to be as efficient, and productive as possible.
